Some people build careers. Others build relationships that last a lifetime.
After more than three decades in the processing tomato industry, Greg Wuttke is retiring, bringing to a close a career defined by trust, integrity, and genuine friendships. Customers, suppliers, colleagues, and industry partners have come to know Greg not only for his technical expertise, but for his honesty, his willingness to share his knowledge, and his genuine passion for the industry.
Greg’s career began in Australia in the early 1990s, where he worked in the packaging industry supporting tomato processors. In 1998, work brought Greg and his wife, Tracey, to the United States, and six years later an opportunity with Morning Star brought them to Northern California. It was the beginning of a chapter that would shape the next 22 years of their lives, both professionally and personally.
Ask Greg what he’ll remember most from his career, and the answer isn’t sales, products, or even tomatoes.
It’s the people.
“The bonus is the people you meet along the way,” Greg says. “I have some lifelong friendships that have been made over the years by simply listening and caring about our customers.”
That philosophy defined Greg’s career. Whether working with customers, mentoring colleagues, or tackling a challenge, he earned a reputation as someone people could trust. He was candid, thoughtful, and always willing to lend his experience to help others succeed.
Some of Greg’s favorite memories came early in his Morning Star career, when a small sales team found itself learning, growing, and building the business together. More than 20 years later, those friendships remain among the highlights of his career.
Greg also had a front-row seat to the remarkable evolution of the processing tomato industry. From advances in harvesting, processing, and packaging to the development of new tomato ingredients, he embraced change while never losing sight of what mattered most: building strong relationships and helping customers succeed.
Today, Greg and Tracey are looking forward to enjoying retirement together–traveling throughout Australia, spending time with family and friends, and making time for plenty of golf and fishing. After years of traveling the world for work, they’re excited to explore more of their own backyard and enjoy all the opportunities this next chapter has to offer.
When asked what he hopes people remember most, Greg’s answer is simple: “The passion I had for the business.”
Anyone who has worked with Greg has seen that passion firsthand. It showed in the respect he earned, the friendships he built, and the positive impact he had on so many people throughout the processing tomato industry.
As he begins this well-earned retirement, Greg leaves one final message:
“I wish everyone involved with Morning Star, customers and colleagues, all the best for their future missions.”
Congratulations, Greg. Thank you for your friendship, your leadership, and your many contributions to both Morning Star and the processing tomato industry. We wish you and Tracey every happiness in this exciting new chapter.
I am sad to see Greg leave Morning Star and the industry, but at the same time happy that he gets to retire to follow his passion and dreams. Greg provided our customers with expertise in various areas of the business: tomato, packaging, processing, etc. He developed deep and wide relationships with his customers and people in the industry. He was not only a colleague but most importantly a dear friend. He will definitely be missed. He brought passion and humor to the business which I greatly appreciate and will miss.

I was lucky to work with Greg for a little more than a year. Lucky, but also a little sad because I wish it had been longer.
