Morning Star and Kanematsu Collaborate on Field Evaluation of EF Polymer Technology in California Tomato Production

LOS BANOS, CALIFORNIA — The Morning Star Packing Company and Kanematsu Corporation have initiated a collaborative field evaluation of EF Polymer technology during the 2026 California processing tomato season.

The evaluation is intended to improve understanding of how organic superabsorbent polymer technology performs under commercial tomato production conditions. The trial will focus on agronomic observations and field performance throughout the growing season, helping both organizations better understand potential applications within modern agricultural systems.

EF Polymer is an organic polymer technology designed to interact with water and nutrients within the soil environment. There is growing interest in understanding how such technologies may contribute to improved resource utilization, soil health, nutrient cycling, and long-term agricultural sustainability.

“We believe meaningful innovation begins with careful evaluation under real-world commercial conditions,” said Aaron Giampietro of The Morning Star Packing Company. “This collaboration with Kanematsu reflects our commitment to exploring technologies that may create value for growers, customers, and the broader food system while maintaining a disciplined, data-driven approach.”

Kanematsu views the collaboration as part of its broader commitment to advancing innovative agricultural technologies and supporting future GX (Green Transformation) initiatives throughout the food and agriculture sectors.

Results from the 2026 field evaluation will help inform future research and potential applications of the technology within commercial tomato production systems.
